Popcorn ceiling is not an issue that you can take lightly. At least that is not something that we are going to recommend that you do. Obviously, if you were there when the ceiling was made and you know that no asbestos where used in the process then you really should not be worried. If your home, however, was built in the late ‘70s early ‘80s and even a bit before that then you should probably be a little more vigilant. We are going to make sure that your home and the people who live in it are not in danger because of the
exposure
to asbestos.
Remember, when choosing which ceiling texture you want to install, you want to make sure that it is a sturdy material. This is important so that it does not come tumbling down due to improper drywall installation. Do-it-yourself projects are not necessarily the easiest things to do. They take a certain level of skill. Therefore, if you have doubts, then you may want to seek the help of a professional to complete this task for you.
Nothing Has Happened Yet
It is not our intention to scare you into thinking that you have asbestos so that you write us a big check for us to clear your ceiling. A lot of folks are going to argue that their home has been like that for years and they really did not have a problem with the asbestos at all. There are people who lived through the Chernobyl disaster, and that is really great, but not having to go through with that would have been the ideal scenario. Of course, we are comparing apples to oranges here, but we hope you get the point!
Asbestos Is Not the Only Issue
If you have a textured ceiling that you don’t like whether it happens to have asbestos or not we are going to be able to help you remove it. What we are going to do is literally go through and smoothen out the area as best we can. If we find out that the ceiling actually does not contain asbestos we are actually going to be able to use a lot of the original materials to just smoothen things out and repaint.
No Trace Of It
Over the years we have been able to see a lot of different people do the same type of work that we do. More often than not we get a chance to see their work when it is not that good. A lot of people think it is not that hard to literally smoothen out a popcorn roof. Especially when you are not necessarily worried about asbestos removal. That is not always going to be the case though. With us, you are guaranteed a smooth finish that you are going to be able to brag about if that is something that you like to do with friends.
As we mentioned if you have asbestos the best thing that you can do is to have them removed. Once that is done though you are going to be left with multiple options on what you want to do. A popcorn ceiling, sometimes called a stipple ceiling or stucco ceiling, is typically a ceiling with at least one of an array of paint-on or spray-on finishes. It is usually made from materials such as wood, vinyl and metal. These days they are often used in kitchens and bathroom spaces.
As you may be able to imagine, these finishes can be sprayed onto any type of surface. This makes them very versatile. You could, for example, apply paint to the ceiling of your kitchen and then have it dry on top of the ceiling texture over your sink. In bathrooms, some people would apply a coat of coating to their ceiling and allow it to dry. Once it has dried, it can be removed and any remaining streaks or paint can be brushed off.
One of the benefits of having a Popcorn Ceiling is that they are easy to remove. If you find that the drywall ceiling is starting to look a little messy or
stained, just take a razor blade and easily cut away any sections of the ceiling that are blocking your view. Once you have removed sections, you will notice that they no longer obstruct your view. This is because the paint dries quickly. After the paint dries, it is very easy to see what is underneath. It is then just a matter of trimming the extra material to match your new ceiling.
Once the trim has been done, you will be left with a clean surface. Some people prefer to use an all-purpose cleaner, but I think a good old fashioned rag is just as good. Just wipe the ceiling down by wiping away any excess dirt and dust. Then, if there was any discoloration, just give it a light sanding with a fine grit sandpaper. Remember to be very gentle with the surface as you do not want any scratches.

The benefits of this are really just that. They are very inexpensive and can really add to the look of any room. When choosing a paint color, be sure to pick one that complements your current cabinets and furniture. I recommend having at least three colors to give a little bit of contrast. Also, consider the environment that you live in, if you live in a humid area make sure that your paint is waterproof.
Another great thing about these ceilings is that they are customizable. There are so many different models and textures to choose from. Some are vinyl, some are fabric and some are a combination of the two. Just remember that if you have children they may need to be taken off of the ceiling before the job is completed.
If you are looking for something more permanent, you can purchase one that is made out of cement. You will have to remove the trim and the special tile that go on the ceiling. This is one job where a contracting company would be better suited. If you are not interested in this, you can also do it yourself with a little bit of home improvement tools and a few hours.
These benefits have been discussed, however there are also other benefits. They can really add value to your home as well as beauty. Popcorn is always popular at family reunions and themed parties. They also make great decorations at outdoor events such as baseball championships.
One last reason that you may want to consider this type of ceiling is because they can be quite decorative. There is nothing that compares to the look of a perfectly placed corn pipe. If you are decorating any room in your home, this is definitely one item that should not be ignored. It will add a nice touch to any room that needs a little added style.
These benefits are just a few of the ones that you can get from this type of ceiling. If you are not interested, however, you can still purchase them and install them yourself. With a little bit of do-it-yourself knowledge, you can complete this task in a matter of an hour or two. The fact that they are not as pricey is one of the major reasons why homeowners choose to do this themselves. In addition, you can find a corn pipe to fit almost any size ceiling.
